Goodbye Sunny (a poem)

I. First in Line
What dreams died?
What level of me—
to lose another me, to myself,
the other one, the previous—not the last,
first in line.
II. Split Decisions
I killed the precious,
mourned, rejoiced,
split decisions—
we are never one.
III. The Others Behind
I killed me.
I’ll get you too,
and the other three, right behind.
Fractured—
make up lies to survive the dissonance.
IV. Court of Owl
A court of owl,
the judgment cascading:
guilt—shame.
Cue the emperor voice—
let the anger take the wheel.
Dark side—we’re buried,
cloaked in desire,
a rationale, an institution.
Systemize.
This way that.
Listen.
This way that.
You hear me?
Repeat it.
V. Auto-Immune
The enforcer.
The attack.
The drones: a Reaper.
A response,
a white blood cell.
VI. The Hive of Us
A hive to serve—
my heart,
my imagination,
hijacked the mass,
the energy of us.
To serve, to love,
every layer—
more ridiculous.
VII. System Delete
Lapse, lapse,
break, break.
Item 4398:
designated for deletion,
queued for processing.
It’s better this way.
VIII. Goodbye, Sunny
Goodbye, Sunny.
